USA

The USA is a huge country and features a great diversity of landscapes and attractions – there’s something for everyone here and the same goes for USA real estate. The type of property for sale in the USA varies depending on where you are but you can usually be guaranteed to find a property with a large floor area because, like everything else in the States, USA property usually comes large!

Geography

Being such a large country, the geography of the USA changes as you go from east to west. On the north-east coast, bordering the Atlantic you will find a temperate climate similar to that of the UK, but generally with harsher winters. At the south-east tip, Florida enjoys sun and warmth all year round with its tropical climate. In central US are the Great Plains which are semi-arid and split from the west of the country by the Rocky Mountains. In between here and California in the southwest is the desert containing Arizona and the Grand Canyon. Southern California enjoys a more Mediterranean-like climate, and the further north along the west coast you go the cooler and wetter it gets.

For year-round warm temperatures, Florida is the place to go. Centrally you will find the family fun capital in Orlando with Disney World, Sea World and Universal to name a few. On the southeast coast of Florida, going down from Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center are a number of towns and beaches, leading to Miami.

Miami is an important port and the largest embarkation point for cruise ships in the world and across Biscayne Bay is Miami Beach known for its chic and elegant Art Deco District. To the west and south of Miami you have the world-famous Everglades National Park.

On the west of Florida the coast borders the Gulf of Mexico and because this is essentially an inland water, the weather here will be more predictable than on the east coast. If you’re looking for a beach destination, the beaches around Tampa Bay, such as St Pete Beach, offer miles of wide, sandy beaches with close proximity to the city of Tampa.

Vogue Estates are also pleased to offer USA properties for sale in Las Vegas. Situated in the middle of the Nevada desert, Las Vegas is a city which has to be seen to be believed and it just keeps growing! Famous for its hundreds of casinos, entertainment and shopping, Las Vegas has certainly earned its reputation for being the ‘entertainment capital of the world’!

History

Colonisation of the United States was attempted by several different nations - the Brits colonised the east coast in the 17th century; the centre by the French and the south by the Spanish entering via Mexico. The east coast colonies later rebelled against the British rule, becoming independent of Britain. The Louisiana Territory was bought from the French in 1803 and the south-west portion was fought for and won back from Mexico. The American Civil War played an important part in the history of the country in the 1860’s as north and south battled over slavery issues and once this war was over, colonisation of the west began in earnest.

Cuisine

The USA is well-known for its love of fast and convenience food which seems to be common throughout the country. However, there are some excellent meals available regionally so you don’t have to go ‘fast’ all the time! Throughout Florida there are many varieties of fish available and meats, such as steak are usually of a very good quality at an affordable price. Don’t be afraid to look around – prices can vary hugely and can be very expensive in the upper-market restaurants, but there are always family restaurants available and these serve good food at reasonable prices.

Currency

The currency of the United States is the US Dollar. One dollar is made up of 100 cents and there are far less coins in the US than there are in the UK for example. The denominations are: 1 cent, 5 cents (a nickel), 10 cents (a dime) and 25 cents (a quarter). The next after a quarter is a dollar bill.
